The best pizza franchises in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is home to a diverse selection of food that comes from different cultures both within the Asian continent and outside of it. This includes the globally beloved Italian cuisine which is where pizza originated.

In Saudi Arabia alone, there are a diverse set of pizza companies that deliver the tastiest flavours of popular baked food. Several of these restaurants have merged international flavours with local twists which have seen them remain on top of the national pizza industry.

In line with this, NKD Pizza has listed some of the best pizza franchises that dominate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  1. NKD Pizza

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention our shop on the list. NKD Pizza began as a passion project amongst a group of friends who bonded over late nights at the best local pizzeria in our area and developed a shared love for the culinary arts. Now we have become one of the best local pizza places in the country, offering dishes that offer both classic Italian-style pizzas and flavours that are unique to our precious country.

  1. Maestro Pizza

Tracing its beginnings in 2013, Maestro Pizza brings a taste of Saudi Arabia through its baked offerings. Its founder, Khalid Al Omran, saw the opportunity to provide locals with high-quality pizza dishes sold at an affordable price.

In the beginning, Maestro began with a team of 10. With its unique flavours that tickle the taste buds of fellow countrymen, the pizza restaurant quickly became popular and cemented itself in the country’s booming pizza industry. Now there are over 170 outlets spread across Saudi Arabia with over 100,000 pizzas delivered per day.

  1. Domino’s Pizza

This pizza franchise from the west was founded by two brothers in the U.S. state of Michigan in 1960. Only a few years after its beginning, it started to branch out and had over 200 stores by 1978. The franchise continued to grow not only within the United States but also internationally as it continued to open stores in countries such as Canada and Australia in the 80s.

With continuous success, there were more than a thousand international franchises before the end of the 20th century. And by the end of 2012, Domino’s Pizza opened its 200th store in Saudi Arabia.

Suffice it to say that this particular franchise has reigned as the leading pizzeria in the country.  Saudi Arabia’s Alamar Foods holds the master franchise and operational rights of Domino’s Pizza within the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan. Now it owns over 350 Domino’s Pizza stores across 11 countries in the MENA and Pakistan region.

  1. Papa John’s Pizza

Considered to be one of the world’s largest pizza companies, Papa John’s Pizza was founded in 1984 by John ‘Papa’ Schnatter. In the humble beginning, he installed an oven inside a broom closet of his father’s tavern and sold his Camaro to purchase other pizza equipment. He then began selling pizza to his father’s customers and immediately saw success.

The company went public in 1993 and had 500 stores only a year later. By the end of the 20th century, it had opened over 1,500 stores. The company has since expanded its reach worldwide with over 5,500 stores.

Here in Saudi Arabia, the pizza brand cemented a partnership with PJP Investment Group to continue its expansion in the Kingdom. During the year 2021, Papa John’s first four new outlets opened in Sulaimaniyah, Al-Nouzha, Al-Malqa, and Qurtubah. This is only the beginning of the company’s plan to open 100 restaurants in the next 10 years.

  1. Little Caesars Pizza

The multi-national pizza chain, Little Caesar, was founded in May 1959 by a couple named Mike and Marian Ilitch and was originally called ‘Little Ceasar’s Pizza Treat’. 1962 marked their first franchise with a location under the same name.

At present, the company now has 4,300 locations across 18 international markets. It is also currently one of the biggest pizza corporations behind Pizza Hut and Domino’s. Bazbaza International Trading Co. LTD., Riyadh is the franchisee that operates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  1. 800PIZZA

In 2006, Alessandro D’Ubaldo who hails from Italy began his pizzeria project centred on authentic Italian food. By March of the following year, he opened his first branch of 800PIZZA in Dubai. After a successful few years in the country, the restaurant began franchising in 2013 and has only grown since.

  1. Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut began in 1958 after two brothers borrowed $600 from their mother to open a pizza place in Wichita, Kansas. The restaurant quickly grew and has now become a household name worldwide. As of 2020, the chain has a total of 17,639 restaurants worldwide which has established it as the largest pizza chain in the world.

Though it has a shaky relationship with the Kingdom, the recent deal between Saudi’s Americana Restaurants and Pizza hut’s owner Yum! Brands projects to open 30 pizza locations by early 2023.

  1. Sbarro

Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro along with their children from Naples immigrated to New York and founded the company in 1956. They first began as a salumeria which is what you call an Italian grocery store and first sold pizza slices for workers who were looking for a quick meal.

The success of their salumeria saw them opening additional locations around New York focused on selling pizza. After seventy years in the pizza industry, they now have more than 600 franchises across 26 countries including Saudi Arabia.

How to franchise with NKD Pizza

As a brand that started our company from scratch, we understand how difficult it is to penetrate the market when you’re only starting in the industry. That’s why many people choose to franchise instead of establishing their brand. If you’re considering doing the same thing, here are the steps to follow to open your own NKD Pizza branch.

  1. Prepare initial investment budget

To start, you need at least $60,000 for the initial investment price we have set. This amount covers all the expenses to open up a store including inventory, security deposit, signage, initial training for management and staff, and other additional expenses.

  1. Strong communication skills

The process of franchising is rigorous and can be pretty technical so be sure you or a representative has strong communication skills so we can avoid complications and misunderstandings during the process.

  1. Application process

Once you are sure you’re ready to start franchising with us, you can head to our contact page and send us your application. You must include all your personal information and a cover letter that details why you want to open an NKD Pizza branch. You must also indicate the location where you intend to open the branch and outline a plan for the first 5 years of the business.

  1. Background check

Franchising means we will be investing in you as much as you are investing in us. Since you will be carrying the name of our brand, we need to ensure that you can put your best foot forward in representing us. For this to be done, we conduct thorough background checks.

  1. Prepare for a credit check

Another thing we conduct is a credit check to make sure that you are capable of keeping the franchise afloat. To do this, we hire a third-party checker who will conduct thorough research on your financial history. The information we gather includes all your assets and liabilities.

  1. Application review

Once we have gathered all the necessary data, we will do in-house checking of all the information we have about you to determine whether you fit the company standards. The process may be rigorous but it is necessary to ensure that all parties feel secure in the possible partnership.

  1. Application approval

Once we have reviewed your application and deemed that you will be a good fit for the brand, we will contact you immediately and connect you with the proper channels to begin the process of franchising.

The taste of Saudi Arabia with NKD Pizza

With our years in the pizza industry, we have learned the importance of setting ourselves apart from the competition. There are enough pizza companies that deliver the usual pizza flavours to the local market and there is no need for more of the same thing.

That is why our pizza offerings focus on delivering the taste of Saudi Arabia to our patrons at an affordable price. The flavours we offer are unique to the locale and as such, all the people who have dined with us can enjoy the familiar treat with a delicious twist.

Though we began as a small shop created among a small group of friends, we have grown exponentially since. To franchise with us, be sure to follow the process listed in the previous section and contact us through the proper channels which you can find on our about us page.
